Is it time for college students to be calling home?
When you’re bound for college should you reside local to your house or move to a exclusive school with outrageous tuition, room and board?
Naturally, I’m biased.
I am a product of public college schooling and think that I came out as well as another peer of mine who attended Vanderbilt (even though I paid THOUSANDS fewer than she did overall).

In the 1970’s, taxpayers funded 43% of the school’s budget. “At the moment, we’re a privately supported college which also receives some meaningful state aid,†says W. Taylor Reveley III, president of William & Mary.
To make up the divergence, public universities have got to rely on tuition and charges to pay for the bulk of the budgetary necessities; because of this, several state schools work hard to be a lure for out of state students, who will pay a premium, from time to time more than three times as much as residents, to attend.
“Given the way that states are limiting funds, to replace an in-state undergraduate with an out-of-state student, especially if you can attain some of that income for your personal purposes, is a nice thing money-wise for schools,†says John Maguire, chairman and originator of Maguire Associates, a research-based consulting firm specializing in educational institutions.
Therefore I suppose sometimes it comes down to whether you want to go in state or out of state and the cost you may incur.
